AM – Astronomy & Cosmology
PM – Live Animal Experience
As part of our Astronomy Workshop Series, Sangha Staff, Blaise and Sinead will delve into the topic of Astronomy & Cosmology with educational references to world cultures and hands-on activities which reveal what the ancient arts have to teach us today. We are privileged to have Sweetbriar Nature Center with us again this summer. They will introduce participants to various animals who reside at their science education and native wildlife rehabilitation center.
Wednesday, 8/2:
AM – Singing Bowl Sound Healing
PM – The Water Cycle
We are happy to have a second segment with Reiki Master, Brenda Hohner who is gifting us with Singing Bowl Sound Healing experiences and accompanying hands-on education and wellness. This session will be followed by a Water Cycle Workshop taught by Sangha Staff and STEM teacher, Steeve Sproul. This educational presentation will highlight the importance of water in our ecosystem and ourselves; includes a bath salts-making experience.
Friday, 8/4:
AM – Totem Pole Painting
PM – Blue Bird Houses
We will have a second session with Christopher Keller, Artist and Engineering Student who will guide us in painting our Native American-inspired Totem Pole with special representative colors. Chris will then work with us to create authentic Blue Bird Houses, following a brief presentation about their needs and nesting habits. We will post the houses on stands to be placed in our Meadow Farm space, encouraging these endangered species to flourish on the Jericho Preserve.

During this 4-week summer program, teens and young adults with a range of abilities (in middle, high school, college and the workplace) are introduced to a sampling of hands-on, heart-centered nature and wellness inclusive community classes across various topic areas and creative outlets. Games and team-building, too! Guided by our teachers, farmers, peer-mentors and community partners, participants come together for outdoor educational experiences, to enjoy camaraderie and minimize anxiety. Learn what diversity in nature has to teach through the exploration and discovery of plants, animals, land and water in our Long Island “learnscape”, connecting us as kin. Something for everyone! BYO lunch (water & snack available)
