Happy to have Musician and Vocalist Lisa Mischke with us to offer an interesting array of musical experiences connecting humans to the natural world. Embark on a journey through the power of sound. The WaterFront Center of Oyster Bay will then return for a Wind Turbine Energy Creation Workshop where participants will build miniature wind turbines and experiment with energy power to determine best methods with Q&A time about this technology.
AM – Forest Bathing
PM – Science Scents Experiments
Forest Bathing with Stephanie Gaglione, Certified Nature Therapy Guide includes ways in which to explore nature through a range of invitations and enjoyable sensory experiences to minimize anxiety and attain various health benefits. Our activity segment will include Science Scents Experiments based on the ancient art and chemical science of making fragrances that goes back about 4,000 years to develop perfumes, incense, and vapors from flower petals.
AM – Medicinal Herb Walk
PM – Botany Art
Natural Nurse, Ellen Kamhi, will join us to guide a Medicinal Herb Walk around Malcolm House and to our Meadow Farm. We will learn how to identify the healing plants on our premises and their functions, collecting them towards the afternoon activity of Botany Art. Tracing some of the medicinal plant samples will etch their shapes and patterns in our minds and serve as the background to pressing and framing the powerful plants that resonate with us most.
During this 4-week summer program, teens and young adults with a range of abilities (in middle, high school, college and the workplace) are introduced to a sampling of hands-on, heart-centered nature and wellness inclusive community classes across various topic areas and creative outlets. Games and team-building, too! Guided by our teachers, farmers, peer-mentors and community partners, participants come together for outdoor educational experiences, to enjoy camaraderie and minimize anxiety. Learn what diversity in nature has to teach through the exploration and discovery of plants, animals, land and water in our Long Island “learnscape”, connecting us as kin. Something for everyone! BYO lunch (water & snack available)
