Frida Kahlo – Art & Spanish Workshop
May 2 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

We are happy to offer an inclusive community class for teens and young adults as part of our Project Stewardship program, based on the amazing life and work of artist Frida Kahlo! Join Jeanette Morales-Rodriguez, SUNY Old Westbury MALS candidate and Spanish teacher, who will offer a unique educational opportunity to celebrate the artist and activist Frida Kahlo. Participants will be introduced to Frida’s life and art and be inspired by her philosophical life lessons taught to us in English and Spanish. Enjoy creating your own artwork, including a self-portrait based on Frida’s artistic creations.
About Frida Kahlo (1907-1954): Frida was a renowned Mexican painter famous for her vibrant, deeply personal, and often surreal self-portraits exploring themes of identity, pain, postcolonialism, and gender, using Mexican folk art styles to represent her turbulent life, chronic physical suffering from polio and a severe bus accident, and her tumultuous marriage to muralist Diego Rivera. She became a feminist icon and cultural symbol after her death, celebrated for her unflinching portrayal of her inner world and resilience in the face of adversity.
