Monday, 7/29:
AM – Drumming Circle – Rhythms of Wellness
PM – Dye and Paint with Magical Indigo Leaves
Let’s make music together today! Michael Coote and Susan Gelbman will lead a drumming circle that is fun, intuitive, magical and sounds so good! We will tune in and come together as One! There will be a variety of drums and other instruments to utilize and share. Our day will continue with artist and Indigo gardener, Bernadette Puleo, who will lead us in using leaves of the Japanese Indigo plant and a sprinkle of salt to dye a silk item of our choice such as scarfs, gift pouches, or wall hangings. Once the items are dyed, participants will stencil or hammer a design with rolled up leaves, leaf prints, or Indigo pigment. Experience the magic of Indigo and take home something beautiful that is uniquely yours.
Wednesday, 7/31:
AM – Singing Bowls and Sound Healing in Practice
PM – Extracting Pigment from Magical Indigo Leaves
We will resume in the mornint with Susan Gelbman, who will be gifting us with singing bowl sound healing practical experiences. Relaxation becomes easier with the gentle guidance of singing bowls. Soothing frequencies of the Tibetan and crystal bowls, flutes and mystical instruments are healing for mind, body, and soul. Receive the meditation and learn how to play as well! In the afternoon, we are privileged to have Bernadette Puleo return for an activity… to teach how blue pigment comes from Japanese Indigo leaves! We will experience the step-by-step process of how Indigo also produces pink and purple with leftover leaves from Mondays’ workshop. It is truly magical!
Friday, 8/2:
AM – Totem Pole Completion and Introduction to Perspective Photography
PM – The Helpful Planner Writing Workshop
We will have complete painting and sealing our totem pole and prepare the wood base for installation in our Meadow Farm. And we will have a picnic celebration! The symbolic meaning of what the animal totems mean to us will be explored through an animal totem card activity. Sangha staff will also introduce participants to perspective photography to expand flexibility of mind and boost creativity using special phone close-up lenses. Capturing the present moment during interactive mindful nature photography will be explored further in the Fall 2024. Confirmed for the afternoon, Portia Ingram will share her writing and coaching expertise with us as we use her Helpful Planner for writing and goal setting activities in collaboration with peers. This workshop will help young people to grow, plan and execute their ideas including the resources needed to manifest their dreams.
If needed, raindates are scheduled at the end of the season, Monday, 8/5 and/or Wednesday, 8/7.
See all the Summer At The Sangha events >
During this 4-week summer general public program, teens and young adults with a range of abilities (in middle, high school, college and the workplace) are introduced to a sampling of hands-on, heart-centered nature and wellness community classes across various subject areas such as history, science, and creative art outlets. Games and team-building, too! Guided by our teachers, farmers, peer-mentors and community partners, participants come together for outdoor educational experiences, to enjoy camaraderie and minimize anxiety. Learn what diversity in nature has to teach through the exploration and discovery of plants, animals, land and water in our Long Island “learnscape”, connecting us as kin. Something for everyone! BYO lunch (water & snack available).
