The Sangha Education Center mission is to create “A Place of Wonder” where we educate the whole-learner by inspiring an interconnected understanding of self, others, and the natural world through mentoring and stewardship programs. We ensure that ALL learners are empowered in the spirit of wonder to find and follow their bliss as members of a warm and welcoming community environment. Cultivating strengths and minimizing anxiety through heart-centered learning programs, our youth develop a sense of well-being that enable life opportunities not otherwise attained. Together, we educate, support and celebrate young people with a range of abilities and needs in Long Island’s first community education center of its kind! And we welcome the community at-large to partake in education and wellness experiences that enhance the lives of all in our beautiful and historic location on the Jericho Preserve.
All of our programs are open to the general public. Some young people who participate in our programs may have a specific or comorbid disability such as ADHD, Autism/Aspergers, Dyslexia/Dysgraphia and/or Anxiety including OCD. They tend to have various strengths that go unrecognized or may be highly gifted with any of the above diagnoses (together defined as “2e: Twice Exceptional”). A number fall through the cracks within our systems due to “invisible disabilities”. Others may underachieve and have skills deficits that lead to learned helplessness or may overachieve but yet still do not feel as though they “fit in” and experience varying levels of anxiety. We provide an inclusive environment where everyone is “free to be you and me” with unique educational approaches that foster a sense of well-being for all participants.
We invite you to take part in a community of care, cooperation and compassion where our youth can find meaning in learning, grow at their developmental pace, and be valued for who they are and how they learn. Considering the diverse learning styles and abilities of all young people, we meet each individual where they are to help them truly learn, grow and thrive into adulthood, preparing them for new chapters in their lives. We offer community support, resources and educational enrichment and wellness opportunities for parents/caregivers, families/schools, and community members. The supporting roots of community enable positive growth for all, building knowledge, skills and friendships!
