Description
Learn about local community history as the foundation for connections to Long Island history, bringing it closer to home. Long Island History In Your Own Backyard includes a series of presentations, activities, house and walking tours at Historic Malcolm House and other properties on the Jericho Preserve. Discover the web of Quaker and African American communities that resided in Jericho, Wantagh/N. Bellmore and Old Bethpage and their involvement in abolition and the Underground Railroad. We can benefit from the wisdom of those who came before us and apply what we learn to our lives today. The life and times of local families and the farming and maritime culture to which they were connected comes alive at our location. This is an important educational experience related to Nassau County’s rich history and the roles of its people. Multiple modules are in development. Schools and community groups may return for different presentations, activities, and tours. Exhibitions will follow!
