And\, “collaborative and interpersonal awareness” builds on that skill by adding other people into the equation. Healthy collaboration depends on multiple people showing up with self-knowledge.  \n\n\n\nThese relational skills are imbued in almost everything we do and yet a lot of people lack the skills needed for “conscious & consensual relating”. Conscious & consensual relating comes from listening to others’ boundaries\, adjusting your behavior respectfully\, navigating differences without judgment or expectation\, and co-creating agreements that include and respect all parties involved. Most of the time this stuff is happening behind the scenes\, unspoken and barely acknowledged and understood by each party. But direct teaching of these skills can be helpful. \n\n\n\nThis workshop will break down the foundations of interpersonal relationships so we can show up with more awareness\, understanding\, and empowerment. In this interactive workshop\, we will clarify all of the above through examples\, supportive worksheets related to boundaries and consent\, interactive exercises including guided Dowell work for physical awareness\, active listening for reciprocal assertive and receptive roles\, and partnering to practice shared agreements. In addition\, we offer two-three simultaneous groups per session with Dungeon Masters (DMs) Riley and Irvin; now introducing DM Carlos. We work to accommodate the number of teens and young adults interested in joining us. Please be sure to register in advance to help us with planning. \n\n\n\nThese imaginative role-play storytelling adventures take on different formats and themes. The game incorporates character development\, 3D character creation\, painting\, and game play. During Spring 2025\, program participants\, interns\, and mentors worked on a wood-working project to build barriers and target boards for this event. Young people in our Project Stewardship program will break into teams and build visual-motor skills through target practice with soft Nerf darts. They will then work out a tag strategy with the guidance of mentors. Three plans have already been documented for ease of embarking on the Nerf tag process. In this game strategies and free-play will be incorporated. Participants will be guided in developing their own skincare products out of organic milk and honey to maintain soft\, healthy skin. And we will spend time applying our milk and honey skin care products used for facials or hand/foot salves while listening to relaxing music together. Then determining how our skin care creations felt. Bottles will be brought home for further use or as gift items. \n\n\n\nDuring our afternoon workshop Reiki Master\, Brenda Hohner\, will educate participants about how to use sound vibrations and energy for self-healing. We will be provided with scientific background and insight about this wellness method followed by hands-on singing bowl experiences to extend the learning. We can make connections to the power of sound influencing marine life and other organisms on Earth\, too! \n\n\n\nWednesday\, 7/30:AM – Indigo Pigment Art Stenciling & Event HostingPM – Sangha Nature-Art Exhibition and DemonstrationThis morning Sangha participants will help to set up for and later host a special afternoon community event\, a Sangha Nature-Art Exhibition and Demonstration. Bernadette Puleo will guide our young people in embarking on the Indigo salt-rub process and how to extract blue\, purple and pink color pigment from magical Japanese indigo leaf sediment\, using it to paint stenciled surface designs onto the pre-dyed\, dried\, and ironed fabric. \n\n\n\nBernadette\, Sangha staff and participants will later demonstrate the process to community members who come to view all Sangha Nature-Art created during Summer at the Sangha that will be exhibited today. Bernadette’s custom creations will be on display as well. Special activities will take place and refreshments served. And\, the expanded exhibit we create will be made available to local libraries for public viewing on a revolving basis starting with the Bellmore Memorial Library in March-April 2026. \n\n\n\nFriday\, 8/1: \n\n\n\nAM – Beach Glass & Flower Art – Vases & VotivesPM – Nature Photography\, Games & Activities \n\n\n\nWe will be offering an enjoyable nature craft activity this morning with items we will collect right outside Malcolm House (flowers\, leaves\, and stones) and/or those which we already have in our craft cabinet (such as beach glass\, shells\, mini pinecones\, feathers and more!). Clear vases and votives will be available and we will decorate either the inside or outside based on two different crafting techniques. The beautiful items can be used by participants or given as gifts for friends or family. \n\n\n\nDuring lunch\, we will hold an herb tasting experience with special teas and treats made from the herbs we planted in the Medicine Wheel Garden. We will engage in various birding activities together. Learn how birds of a feather work together just as humans do. \n\n\n\nIn the afternoon we will contribute to the well-being of our feathered friends by making pinecone bird feeders for them! Participants can make several… some for Sangha and others for home. And time permitting\, we can take a walk to our Meadow Farm to check on the Bluebird houses we built and installed last year. They have been home to a number of bluebirds providing a safe space from the threat of extinction. \n\n\n\nWednesday\, 7/23:AM – Painting Cajun Wooden Box DrumsPM – Live Marine Life Touch Tank \n\n\n\nWe will complete our Cajun Wood Box Drum project today! And paint\, stain or decorate our instruments. Malcolm Hall will guide us throughout the process an inspire us with his musical talent and tales from Guyana. Sample indigenous drums and other instruments will be brought in to practice with during today’s session. We can discuss colors and patterns and the significance in certain indigenous cultures by which participants can choose a color or pattern that appeals to or holds meaning for them to use in their design. \n\n\n\nWe are excited to have The WaterFront Center of Oyster Bay join us once again for a marine life education session with a touch tank filled with species from the local area to identify\, handle\, and explore in detail including learning about our natural water habitats and how to protect them and the life that they support. These interesting creatures are interdependent in our ecosystem(s) and we can take part in further exploration through an outing to The WaterFront Center and Friends of the Bay in upcoming seasons.Friday\, 7/25:AM – Meadow Farm Garden Decoration DayPM – Paint Dyeing with Magical Indigo Leaves \n\n\n\nWe are excited to teach through a short presentation about the symbolic meaning of Medicine Wheel Gardens in certain Native American cultures. And we will continue decorating ours for all to enjoy. The presentation will be followed by rock painting. While paint dries\, we will bring larger rocks\, signs and stakes over to the Meadow for installation. We can enjoy time in the garden with an array of team-building activities. We are excited to introduce participants to the Indigo growing in the Meadow that is being cultivated for the workshop up next. \n\n\n\nThis afternoon\, artist and Indigo gardener\, Bernadette Puleo\, will lead us in using leaves of the Japanese Indigo plant and a sprinkle of salt to dye a silk tapestry of wall hangings that will be displayed at our second Indigo session and exhibition event later this season. In today’s session\, Bernadette will explain the history of indigo dyeing\, a universal practice that has been used to dye textiles for over 6\,000 years with various techniques developing in different places over time. Participants will experience one of those techniques. At our second session\, the silk wall hanging will be stenciled or hammered with a design using rolled up leaves or Indigo pigment.
