DESCRIPTION:Chava Blitzer has been teaching SRSD to assist students develop thinking and writing skills for several years and is offering an 8-week instructional services program on Wednesday evenings during March and April at Sangha Education Center for all ages and ability levels broken into small groups. \n\n\n\nMarch Dates: 3\, 10\, 17\, 24 – April Dates: 7\, 14\, 21\, 28 (attending all sessions required) \n\n\n\nSelf-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) for Writing has the strongest evidence-base of all researched writing approaches. DESCRIPTION:We are privileged to have one of our farmer friends\, Mike Roff\, who is in the process of completing a masters degree in occupational therapy\, provide a presentation about his Capstone Project which will guide the planning of our Meadow Farm as we develop this outdoor educational space! Mike’s presentation will include a brief review of the Medicine Wheel Garden concept that young people in our Civic Mentoring program have designed and will implement this year.  \n\n\n\nWe will then have a ceramics Mosaic Art Glass workshop with mentoring supervisor\, Sabrina Galeotafiore. Additionally\, Brandon will engage us in a poetry writing activity that is flexible\, appropriate\, and fun for all.  \n\n\n\nMany of Brandon’s poems have nature themes as well as a progression of self-development. DESCRIPTION:Our Project Stewardship [young adult group] will participate with Spirit of Huntington Arts Center for a special holiday painting workshop as part of Artists Come Alive via ZOOM. Canvasses will be used and can be offered as gifts to family members or friends this season! In this expressive art program\, students discover art styles through the lives of famous artists as they express themselves. Students learn through interactive slide show presentations and stories then create their own masterpieces emulating that artist’s style. The history of the artist’s life including any challenges which they overcame through their art are discussed. DESCRIPTION:Join our Project Stewardship group as we participate with the Amateur Observers’ Society of New York (AOSNY) for their December meeting via Zoom.  AOSNY was established in 1965 as a means for astronomy enthusiasts of all ages to meet together\, provide astronomy resources and educate the public. They offer numerous stargazing activities and are involved with reducing the light pollution problem on Long Island and throughout NYS. Members own telescopes of all types and sizes and are eager to enable others to observe the night sky\, embark on celestial photography and pursue astronomy interests. DESCRIPTION:Due to the pandemic\, the non-profit Lives In The Balance is going virtual for their 10th Annual Summit! While that means they won’t be gathering in person\, it also means that a lot more people can participate. This Summit will feature keynote speaker (and Lives in the Balance Board member) Mona Delahooke\, Ph.D.\, author of Beyond Behaviors: Using Brain Science and Compassion to Understand and Solve Children’s Behavioral Challenges. \n\n\n\nThere will also be a wide array of breakout groups for parents and educators related to advocacy\, Collaborative & Proactive Solutions\, how to implement CPS within a PBIS framework\, anti-racist work\, eliminating the use of restraint and seclusion\, and managing schools and families during a pandemic. DESCRIPTION:Our Project Stewardship young adult group will meet up for a Storytelling Workshop offered by Jill Schweitzer (outdoors\, in-person or via Zoom depending on the weather). Mythology or stories-of-the-people is the study and interpretation of often sacred tales or fables of a culture known as myths or the collection of such stories which deal with various aspects of the human condition. DESCRIPTION:Sessions\n\n\n\nOur morning session is entitled “Seed Starts and Saving – Towards Meadow Farm” and our afternoon session is entitled “Vegetable Art Prints Craft and Wisdom Shells.” \n\n\n\nAbout 21st Century Digital Tools for Reading & Writing Workshop\n< style="text-transform: uppercase">See all the Summer At the Sangha events > \nWe welcome you to participate in the 21st Century Digital Tools for Reading & Writing Workshop following NYS re-opening guidelines for non-essential businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic). We will introduce participants to a sampling of our outdoor “Nature & Wellness” workshops and activities for the education and well-being of our young people (ages 13-23). We work to cultivate strengths and minimize anxiety through heart-centered learning programs inspired by nature! \n\nMondays and Wednesdays (11am-3pm) w/a morning and an afternoon session / short lunch break in between (bring your own): July 20\, 22\, 27\, 29 AND August 3\, 5\, 10\, 12. Raindate for either Monday or Wednesday will be on the Friday of that week (if it is a rain storm). We will be outdoors each day / open air tents set up to protect from the sun and in case of a rain shower (rain ponchos will be available\, if needed). Bring your own lunch and yoga mat or beach towel. Gloves and hand sanitizer provided (extra masks available). Each participant will have their own seat\, table space and supplies throughout the four weeks. And social distancing will be in effect. \n\nAdd-on activities and time for individual outdoor exploration will be integrated. Time slots for sessions can be switched to accommodate weather. Meet Farmer Regina and some of our new teachers! Peer mentors will be working with us to guide our young people throughout the day. \n\nLearn from indigenous peoples and one another what the diversity of nature has to teach! Nature is a community made up of many interrelated living systems connecting us as kin. Envision the thread that weaves together our place within the Earth family.
