SUMMARY:Night of Astronomy
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash\n\n\n\nWe are excited to embark on an Astronomy Workshop Series based on the interests and requests of our Project Stewardship program participants! We will begin this month with a night of observation with Amateur Observers’ Society of New York (AOSNY) to identify celestial properties within the Spring night sky and skygazing opportunities with member telescopes of all types and sizes enabling us to pursue our astronomy interests. AOSNY was established in 1965 as a means for astronomy enthusiasts of all ages to meet together\, provide astronomy resources and educate the public. They offer numerous stargazing activities and are involved with reducing the light pollution problem on Long Island and throughout NYS. \n\n\n\nDuring Summer at the Sangha\, will offer an Introduction to Astronomy and Cosmology based on the scientific developments of cultures around the world and their application to humanities lived experiences past and present to continue the learning on this fascinating range of topics and how the stars and planets have provided guidance in so many ways.In September\, we are happy to welcome the Astronomical Society of Long Island (ASLI) to provide us with insights revolving around telescopic technology and an observation of the moon\, Jupiter and Saturn which can only be seen during the Fall season. ASLI are a diverse group of amateur astronomers who enjoy learning about the night sky\, and enjoy helping others of all ages and experience levels who want to know how to begin in this wonderful hobby.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Project Stewardship program\, please register using the “Member” registration below. SUMMARY:Animals of the World
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Ken Okum on Unsplash\n\n\n\nOur Project Stewardship young adult group will embark on an outing to Parrots of the World where owner\, Mark Morrone has been importing birds\, mammals and reptiles from Central and South America\, Africa and Indonesia since 1978. In time\, Mark began breeding birds and working with bird breeders in the United States. Now a large portion of their business is to export birds\, mammals and reptiles born here to other countries in the world such as far away as Japan\, Chile and Denmark as pets for people to enjoy. We will explore this wonderful “pet shop” and meet Mark. The outing will be followed by refreshments at Sugarberry\, a bakery/coffee shop that is two doors down. Parents should drop off at Parrots of the World and pick up at Sugarberry (there is parking and an entrance in back\, if needed). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Project Stewardship program\, please register using the “Member” registration below. SUMMARY:Harvesting Friendship Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Josh Mills on Unsplash\n\n\n\nWe welcome the community to join us as our Project Stewardship young adult participants attend and host this Harvesting Friendship Celebration as the Fall season comes to a close. We begin with the Gatka cultural martial arts demonstration by Gatka Federation USA. Come be inspired by the Sikh justice mindset where treating people with dignity and respect and advocating for the rights of others is cultivated. \n\n\n\nVisit our center located at Historic Malcolm House on the Jericho Preserve where we are happy to offer a tour of the house originally owned by Quakers involved in abolition and the Underground Railroad on Long Island. The extended event will continue with inspirational painting and craft activities that have a harvesting friendship theme. There will be fun Fall games and refreshments for all to enjoy. Something for everyone! \n\n\n\nThis harvest season was a special one with the culmination of our Meadow Farm! The first harvest was donated to the Long Island high school student TASC Team who helped our garden to grow. This has been a wonderful year of giving and we are grateful! \n\n\n\nPlease feel free to continue the momentum of giving and bring a canned or boxed food item that will be donated to the SUNY Old Westbury Panther Food Pantry so that college students and others do not have to go to school hungry. Those at Sangha believe in the supporting roots of community enabling positive growth for all! \n\n\n\nProject Stewardship participants register via the registration link(s) below. Community members via the donation page to contribute an amount of your choosing. We look forward to seeing you! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Project Stewardship program\, please register using the “Member” registration below.
