SUMMARY:Virtual Community Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Community Support Group began in 2008 to support parents and professionals in the use of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach developed by Dr. Ross Greene\, enabling adults to work successfully with young people to solve problems and build skills\, minimizing challenging behavior. \n\n\n\nDr. Lisa LoPinto has been facilitating the group with us to provide families and school personnel with guidance and support. If you have been using CPS or have not used it before\, come and bring the problem situations you are experiencing with your child/student and we can delve into them using the CPS framework as everyone learns how to build skills and solve problems together. Upon registration\, you will automatically be sent the Zoom link. \n\n\n\nDr. LoPinto is a clinical psychologist in private practice who also offers CPS family skills training. She is a certified CPS provider/trainer who consults with\, trains and offers school district supervisions in the CPS approach. Christine Keller has attended CPS advanced training\, established the Community Support Group\, and utilizes CPS in her work with young people at Sangha Education Center. Dr. Greene offers a range of educational resources on this non-profit website\, Lives in the Balance including worksheets\, videos and more. \n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Community Support Group\, please register using the “Member” registration below. SUMMARY:Nuno Felting Creative Art Fashion Design
DESCRIPTION:Oksana Fiber Studio\n\n\n\nWe are privileged to have artist Oksana Danziger with us again\, this time to introduce program participants to Nuno Felting! Nuno Felting is a fabric felting technique developed by Polly Stirling\, a fiber artist from New South Wales\, Australia\, around 1992. The name “Nuno” is derived from Japanese (布) and means cloth. \n\n\n\nThis mixed media art combines wool with other fibers such as silk\, to create lightweight but sturdy fabrics that are especially good for fashion. In this workshop we will make purses\, cell phone or eyeglass cases and learn the basic principles of Nuno Felting which can then be applied new creative designs. \n\n\n\nNuno Felt is like a silk gauze that is gaining popularity amongst felters and often used for light summer dresses\, shawls\, scarves\, skirts\, shorts\, book bags\, pencil cases\, etc. Almost any material can be used as long as it is thin enough. Come learn how to recycle fabric materials and manifest ideas for future creations. No previous skill necessary. Socialization throughout. \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Project Stewardship program\, please register using the “Member” registration below. SUMMARY:Direct Support for Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) “Bumps in the Road"
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Jeremy McKnight on Unsplash\n\n\n\nCollaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS)\, developed by Dr. Ross Greene\, enables adults to work with young people to solve problems and build skills\, minimizing challenging behavior. \n\n\n\nHave you tried using Collaborative & Proactive Solutions with your child or student and run into “bumps in the road”? Maybe your child/student had difficulty communicating or could not explain what was making it hard for them to meet an expectation. Maybe no one could come up with a mutually satisfactory solution to a problem situation. OR maybe as a parent or educator\, you have been struggling with using Plan B (the problem-solving process) and C (setting an expectation aside for the moment while working on other problem situation) instead of using Plan A (which we know is not typically successful). Dr. Lisa LoPinto can help and support your current efforts in using the CPS model. \n\n\n\nIf you haven’t used CPS before\, no worries… In either case\, come and bring the problem situations you are experiencing with your child/student and we can delve into them using the CPS framework. We will accept questions ahead of time (please submit the ALSUP and related questions via e-mail: info@sanghacenter.org). We look forward to providing guidance and enabling more calm and connection within your family or school setting as everyone learns how to build skills and solve problems together. \n\n\n\nDr. LoPinto is a clinical psychologist in private practice who also offers CPS family skills training.  She is a certified CPS provider/trainer who consults with\, trains and offers school district supervisions in the CPS approach.  Christine Keller has attended CPS advanced training\, established the Community Support Group in 2008 and utilizes CPS in her work with young people at Sangha Education Center. Dr. Greene offers a range of educational resources on this non-profit Lives in the Balance website which you can refer to at any time including worksheets\, videos and more. \n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Community Support Group\, please register using the “Member” registration below. SUMMARY:Meet Amazing Mammals!
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Iurii Krasinikov on iStock\n\n\n\nOur Project Stewardship teen / young adult group is proud to host a workshop with Guide Dog Foundation to learn about their guide and service dog program and what we can do to support it! We will meet a representative who will bring a guide dog and describe the history and impact of their offering. This is a huge undertaking and the skills needed by trainers\, participants in the program\, and dogs alike are amazing. Meet these wonderful canine friends and learn about their training\, daily responsibilities\, and relationships with the individuals who they service. \n\n\n\nIn 1946\, when the Guide Dog Foundation was founded\, its mission was simple: to provide guide dogs and training – free of charge – to people who were blind or have low vision. For more than 75 years\, the Guide Dog Foundation has trained and placed guide dogs and service dogs to provide increased independence and enhanced mobility to individuals who are blind\, have low vision\, or other disabilities. The organization began after WWII to assist Veterans returning from war and has extended their services to many others over the years.  \n\n\n\nWe will also assist Guide Dog Foundation via donations of items on their product donation wish list. A $15 will be added to your cart for this purpose. And\, together with our young people\, we will select which gifts to donate… with gratitude! \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Project Stewardship program\, please register using the “Member” registration below. SUMMARY:Operation Splash Boat Outing - Postponed Due To Weather
DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed due to rain. Stay tuned for rescheduled date. \n\n\n\nOur Project Stewardship teens and young adults will enjoy a boat trip with an Operation Splash Captain Anthony Vecchione and crew to clean marine debris from the South Shore Bay inlets. Operation Splash is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving the quality of Long Island’s south shore bays\, waterways\, and beaches. Operation Splash members actively carry out this mission through marine debris cleanups\, advocacy efforts\, and STEM-based education programs for schools and universities. Register soon as boat capacity is limited. \n\n\n\nSince its founding in 1990\, Operation Splash members have removed more than three million pounds of trash from local waters and their work has influenced environmental legislation aimed at improving marine environments. Through intentional action and advocacy\, Operation Splash believes that the south shore can be preserved for wildlife and Long Islander’s alike to enjoy for generations to come. Our young people have embarked on this journey before and are partaking on it again by request. Join us! \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Project Stewardship program\, please register using the “Member” registration below.
