During Spring 2025\, program participants\, interns\, and mentors worked on a wood-working project to build barriers and target boards for this event. This was such an enjoyable event last spring that our young people who participated asked if we can do it again. \n\n\n\nSingle and double kayaks are available. Kayaking and paddling are low-impact activities that improve fitness\, muscle strength & flexibility which can lead to cardiovascular benefits. And\, as stated on their website\, enabling “big smiles!” \n\n\n\nThe WaterFront Center is a non-profit organization located in Oyster Bay\, NY\, offering marine education and recreational & instructional sailing programs\, as well as paddleboard\, kayak\, and sailboat rentals. Our Project Stewardship group has also embarked on a wonderful harbor tour aboard the National Historic Landmark Oyster Sloop\, Christeen. We will now participate in another beach clean-up\, this time at Center Island Beach (the BAY side) with other community groups. In addition\, during this outing we will learn about the endangered Diamondback Terrapins through an important monitoring program run by Friends of the Bay. The Diamondback Terrapins are an iconic Long Island species and essential to maintain a balanced ecosystem. Terrapins are facing serious population decline and we can help. \n\n\n\nThe goal of this program is to monitor and record the distribution of Diamondback Terrapins in our region by recording any sign of terrapin presence. We will participate in monitoring training and be on the look out for terrapin friends! Please feel free to view this terrapin fact sheet prior to our outing. This is a two-part event\, the second session taking place today. \n\n\n\nOksana has already introduced us to the history of Nuno Felting (some information is provided below). And during our first session\, participants made creative and decorative flowers as Mother’s Day gifts\, an offering to those who do so much to care for our well-being. Our young people have enjoyed collaborating\, sharing artistic ideas with one another\, following directions and guiding or being guided by peers. And then collaborate on assembly\, installation\, and connectivity of one (or more\, depending on complexity and time) of the three kits. We will set up stations for teams to play specific parts in the building process and then come together in the end to enable the different parts to form a working model. \n\n\n\nCome take part in this fun science adventure and build collaboration\, organization\, and problem solving skills while enjoying time with peers! It’s a visual representation or roadmap of how you envision your best life\, helping you to manifest it. Making a vision board is meant to excite you about the future.  \n\n\n\nAt this workshop\, we will be taking a unique approach to vision boarding by first learning a bit about Feng Shui and the Bagua. The Bagua (or parts of your house or room that have symbolic meaning) will be used as a template for the physical board and placement of images\, words\, and affirmations on it. Meet artists Sueey Gutierrez\, Brianna L. Hernandez\, and Manuel Alejandro Macarrulla and Latino Moms Connect\, Inc. \n\n\n\nEnjoy learning about this special holiday and how it is celebrated around the world. Create colorful works of art inspired by the celebration and collaborating artists. As part of this tradition\, bring something personal to leave at the museum ofrenda to honor and remember loved ones. \n\n\n\nActivities throughout the day will include mask-making\, designing your own memorial\, flower-making\, face painting\, and more. Watch the documentary Strong Yaqui Women by Miroslava Gonzalez (at certain times). This beautiful totem pole has now been installed at our Meadow Farm. \n\n\n\nWe will have a celebratory day at the Meadow with garden and Native American-inspired arts & crafts activities\, old fashioned games such as the egg race\, and setting up the area to showcase our totem pole!  \n\n\n\nThis fun-filled day celebrates the efforts of our young people as we reflect on native arts designed and built by our ancestor.
