SUMMARY:Introduction to Historic Malcolm House and the Underground Railroad on Long Island
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Clint Bustrillos on Unsplash\n\n\n\nAt the 250th anniversary of America’s independence from England\, we are happy to introduce Long Island History in Your Own Backyard to the Long Island community! At Sangha Education Center\, we value the opportunity to learn from the wisdom of those who came before us through exposure to our local history. In learning from history\, we can better understand ourselves in the present\, recognizing the forces\, choices\, and circumstances that brought us to this moment in time. \n\n\n\nIn today’s session\, attendees will learn about the strong community bonds that existed in the web of Quaker and African American communities that were involved in abolition and the Underground Railroad on Long Island\, beginning with Jericho. \n\n\n\nMany heroes living on Long Island in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were instrumental in the origins of the abolitionist movement in the northern American colonies. We will learn about some of these individuals who lived on the Jericho Preserve and in Historic Malcolm House. We will share some of their histories\, stories\, and impact that will resonate and inspire us today. \n\n\n\nSangha Education Center will be offering presentations\, activities\, house and walking tours via four modules: Long Island Quakers\, The Underground Railroad on Long Island\, Historic Malcolm House\, and Women & Abolition beginning this Fall 2026.
