Michael Coote and Susan Gelbman will lead a drumming circle that is fun\, intuitive\, magical and sounds so good! We will tune in and come together as One! There will be a variety of drums and other instruments to utilize and share. Our day will continue with artist and Indigo gardener\, Bernadette Puleo\, who will lead us in using leaves of the Japanese Indigo plant and a sprinkle of salt to dye a silk item of our choice such as scarfs\, gift pouches\, or wall hangings. Once the items are dyed\, participants will stencil or hammer a design with rolled up leaves\, leaf prints\, or Indigo pigment. Experience the magic of Indigo and take home something beautiful that is uniquely yours.Wednesday\, 7/31:AM – Singing Bowls and Sound Healing in PracticePM – Extracting Pigment from Magical Indigo LeavesWe will resume in the mornint with Susan Gelbman\, who will be gifting us with singing bowl sound healing practical experiences. Relaxation becomes easier with the gentle guidance of singing bowls. Soothing frequencies of the Tibetan and crystal bowls\, flutes and mystical instruments are healing for mind\, body\, and soul. Receive the meditation and learn how to play as well! In the afternoon\, we are privileged to have Bernadette Puleo return for an activity… to teach how blue pigment comes from Japanese Indigo leaves! We will experience the step-by-step process of how Indigo also produces pink and purple with leftover leaves from Mondays’ workshop. It is truly magical! \n\n\n\nFriday\, 8/2:AM – Totem Pole Completion and Introduction to Perspective PhotographyPM – The Helpful Planner Writing Workshop \n\n\n\nWe will have complete painting and sealing our totem pole and prepare the wood base for installation in our Meadow Farm. And we will have a picnic celebration! The symbolic meaning of what the animal totems mean to us will be explored through an animal totem card activity. Sangha staff will also introduce participants to perspective photography to expand flexibility of mind and boost creativity using special phone close-up lenses. Capturing the present moment during interactive mindful nature photography will be explored further in the Fall 2024. Confirmed for the afternoon\, Portia Ingram will share her writing and coaching expertise with us as we use her Helpful Planner for writing and goal setting activities in collaboration with peers. This workshop will help young people to grow\, plan and execute their ideas including the resources needed to manifest their dreams. \n\n\n\nIf needed\, raindates are scheduled at the end of the season\, Monday\, 8/5 and/or Wednesday\, 8/7. \n\n\n\nSummer at the Sangha 2024\n\n\n\nSee all the Summer At The Sangha events > \n\n\n\nDuring this 4-week summer general public program\, teens and young adults with a range of abilities (in middle\, high school\, college and the workplace) are introduced to a sampling of hands-on\, heart-centered nature and wellness community classes across various subject areas such as history\, science\, and creative art outlets. We will learn different folding and Indigo dying techniques such as Kanoko\, Miura\, and Kumo from artist Oksana Danziger\, to create stunning pieces. We will practice with fabric squares and then use items such as a shirt\, scarf\, or pillowcase (made of 100% cotton) to apply our newfound skill. **Please bring item of choice with you to this workshop. After lunch\, we will take a nature walk to our Meadow Farm where we will embark on some light planting and/or art activities while learning through both native mythology and current scientific fun facts.Wednesday\, 7/10:AM – Our Earth’s Avengers: A Close Look at Insects of AsiaPM – Totem Pole Painting & Sealing \n\n\n\nWe are grateful for another Steeve Sproul workshop which brings science to life! We will be introduced to “Earth’s Avengers”\, unusual and interesting insects of Asia. Participants may be surprised what they learn through video\, games and/or hands-on experiences about an array of beings who make their home on Earth. In the afternoon\, we will spend time outdoors to complete painting and sealing our Native American-inspired Totem Pole\, learning about their origins and meaning. Indigenous cultures around the world have much to teach us through “phenomenology” where artistic creations provide lessons and insight. \n\n\n\nFriday\, 7/12:AM – Forest Bathing Meditative Nature ExplorationPM – Herb Funshop Tea Making & Tasting Forest Bathing with Stephanie Gaglione\, Certified Nature Therapy Guide\, will include ways in which to explore nature through a range of invitations providing creative and enjoyable sensory experiences around Historic Malcolm House on the Jericho Preserve to minimize anxiety and attain various health benefits including general calm and connection. SUMMARY:Kindness Garden Dedication
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Chungkuk Bae on Unsplash\n\n\n\nWe would like to express our thanks to all who have contributed to making the Kindness Garden possible and the ongoing assistance we have received at our Meadow Farm space. Special thanks to our program participants\, Laura and Brooke\, through whom the idea manifested! \n\n\n\nIt is our pleasure to arrange a day to dedicate the Kindness Garden to two extraordinary individuals whose heart-centered existence impacted ours: To Antonet Bivona-Bayrak\, my childhood friend and “soul sister”\, lover of children and animals\, whose kindness and amazing smile lit up the lives of all those who knew her. And\, to Bernice Simmons\, one of our Sangha kids who volunteered with us and served as an important advocate for herself and others\, a beckon of light and kindness. Her rainbow light continues to shine on (literally) which we will discuss at the dedication celebration. \n\n\n\nOn this special day\, dedicated to those who embodied kindness and advocated for its presence in the world\, we will take our nature trail to the Kindness Garden and share some readings and stories with one another. And\, also plant some seeds of kindness in the garden. We will then return to Malcolm House for a reception with refreshments\, music\, and community camaraderie. All are welcome to JOIN US! \n\n\n\nRAINDATE: Saturday\, 6/29\, 1-3pm \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nFor this special event\, please register for a free ticket and make a donation in the amount of your choice. SUMMARY:Virtual Community Support Group
DESCRIPTION:The Community Support Group began in 2008 to support parents and professionals in the use of the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach developed by Dr. Ross Greene\, enabling adults to work successfully with young people to solve problems and build skills\, minimizing challenging behavior. \n\n\n\nDr. Lisa LoPinto has been facilitating the group with us to provide families and school personnel with guidance and support. If you have been using CPS or have not used it before\, come and bring the problem situations you are experiencing with your child/student and we can delve into them using the CPS framework as everyone learns how to build skills and solve problems together. Upon registration\, you will automatically be sent the Zoom link. \n\n\n\nDr. LoPinto is a clinical psychologist in private practice who also offers CPS family skills training. She is a certified CPS provider/trainer who consults with\, trains and offers school district supervisions in the CPS approach. Christine Keller has attended CPS advanced training\, established the Community Support Group\, and utilizes CPS in her work with young people at Sangha Education Center. Dr. Greene offers a range of educational resources on this non-profit website\, Lives in the Balance including worksheets\, videos and more. \n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nIf you are already a member of our Community Support Group\, please register using the “Member” registration below.
